Taiwanese poet Bai Ling has written numerous excellent poems. “The Great Yellow River,” “The Comfort Women Volunteers” and “Kite” are the three Poems I choose to study in this article. In “The Great Yellow River,” he uses the myth which is originally from mainland China, then metaphorize the Yellow River as mother; For historical poem, he wrote “The Comfort Women Volunteers” to satire the Japanese government, which stimulate readers' emotions of pity and fear. “Kite” breaks common words, logical arrangement and sequencing, plays with personification, metonymy, metaphor and other figures of speech. This article explores the tension between the conventions of verse and the creation of poetry, experimentation with various metaphorical imagery and the search for a poetic idiom that satisfies both aesthetic criteria and political statement. It is worth studying his artistic techniques which highlight the poetic conception and plot, especially the method of combining the usage of myth and artistic metaphorical imagery with its underlying commentary of historical events to compose poetic conception, combines with means of artistic expression irony.
