The purpose of this review is to introduce the achievements of Italian history studies in Korea over the past two years and to prospect their future development. In the meantime, Italian history studies have grown steadily, forming a relatively stable academic community, albeit on a small scale. Based on this, studies over the past two years have maintained the same quantitative and qualitative level as the previous period. However, they leave much to be desired, in that, while there are many achievements regarding the Renaissance and early modern age, the achievements on the 20th century decrease, and there are no achievements on the Risorgimento and liberal Italy in a given period. Also, the weakness of political, social and economic history stands out, when compared to the strength of intellectual and cultural history. In this respect, it seems more important than anything else to pursue the balance in Italian history studies. Furthermore, this review suggests that it is necessary to expand the research themes, the problematic and research horizons, and it is important to apply a comparative perspective as a method for such an expansion. In the long run, it is expected that Italian history studies in Korea will move forward slowly, but with motion as before.
