This paper aims to explore the properties of Subject Island Constructions in Spanish and provide appropriate analysis for them. We first looked at previous analyses of Subject Island Construction. Specifically, Chomsky(2008)’s Hypothesis and Gallego(2010)’s Hypothesis (2010) were reviewed, and problems with the hypotheses were also examined. In order to resolve the problems of previous hypotheses and attempt a new analysis of Spanish Subject Island Constructions, we have newly applied Chomsky(2019a,b)’s hypothesis to them. More specifically, based on the Determinacy Condition, we have tried to explain the difference in grammaticality that exists between the constructions in which the preverbal subject appears and the constructions in which the postverbal subject appears. Under this analysis, we have accounted for why the grammaticality of Spanish Subject Island Constructions varies depending on whether they have a preverbal subject or a postverbal subject.
