Patau syndrome, also known as trisomy 13, is a chromosomal disorder caused by the non-disjunction of chromosome 13 during cell division. This genetic variation interferes with normal embryonic development and results in various defects. This report presents a case of multiple dental caries treatment under general anesthesia in a child with Patau syndrome. An 11-year-old girl referred to the Pediatric Dentistry Department of Seoul National University Dental Hospital due to poor cooperation from a general dental clinic. Clinical and radiographic examinations revealed extensive multiple caries lesions on the maxillary anterior teeth, as well as both the maxillary and mandibular premolars and molars. Considering the patient’s systemic condition and the level of cooperation, dental treatment under general anesthesia was planned. Dental caries treatment with composite resin and stainless-steel crown restoration was performed safely and successfully. Regular follow-up examinations are necessary considering the patient’s medical condition and the risk of dental caries. If the complications of Patau syndrome are severe and the patient’s cooperation is limited, dental treatment performed under general anesthesia can be beneficial.
