The purpose of this study is to examine the life of Jang Chang-sun, the first world wrestling champion of South Korea, following retirement as a sports hero. The collected data was analyzed using the method of total content analysis. The analysis showed that, firstly, Jang Chang-sun served as a national team coach to help produce another champion. He continued to live as a coach, making significant contributions to the first gold medals won by South Korea in wrestling history at both the Asian Games and the Olympics. Secondly, after serving as a coach, Jang Chang-sun became the head of the Korea Wrestling Federation and revitalized the sport by improving players’ competitiveness, expanding welfare and pension systems for athletes and coaches, providing stable support for coaches, building a dedicated wrestling gym, establishing an unemployment team, and increasing the popularity of the sport. Moreover, he devoted his career as an administrator. Thirdly, Jang Chang-sun became the head of the Korea Sports Council, the highest honor for athletes, and took the lead in improving the performance, welfare, and treatment of national representatives and coaches from all sports, thereby contributing to the development of sports in South Korea. Fourthly, after completing his tenure as the head of the Korea Sports Council, Jang Chang-sun returned to his hometown of Incheon and dedicated his life to the development of sports and promotion of physical education in the region, serving as a volunteer for the local community. Jang Chang-sun is a highly respected legend and a true sports hero, who holds a special place in the history of wrestling in South Korea.
