In-flight safety education, targetted towards passengers is conducted on every flight prior to takeoff through safety-related announcements. The forms of in-flight safety education provided include direct demonstrations by flight attendants using safety equipment and the screening of safety videos through video systems.This study aims to examine the impact of in-flight safety education on passengers’ safety behavior by applying the theory of planned behavior. To achieve the research objective, a survey was conducted on 198 participants. Data were collected through Google online surveys and analyzed using SPSS 29.0 and AMOS 26.0 statistical programs. The analytical methods included frequency analysis, reliability and validity analyses, and structural equation model analysis.
The results of the empirical analysis supported the following hypotheses. First, in-flight safety education significantly positively affects the components of the theory of planned behavior, namely attitude, perceived behavioral control, and subjective norms. Second, attitude, perceived behavioral control, and subjective norms significantly positively influence cabin safety behavior intention. Third, safety behavior intention significantly positively affects safety behavior. Thus, this study highlights the importance of in-flight safety education during air travel and demonstrates its significant impact on passenger behavior. Understanding this influence is crucial for improving the safety and service quality of the aviation industry.
