This study examines the current status of independent bookstores and ways to revitalize them as a hub symbolizing the region, focusing on independent bookstores operating in Busan. The research method is to understand the concept and current status of independent bookstores through theoretical consideration, and to interview the operators of five independent bookstores operating in Busan and draw conclusion based on the survey results. As a result, independent bookstores were operated according to the values pursued by individual operator, and what the operators commonly pursued was to increase opportunities for local residents to enjoy culture and support the creative activities of creators. And independent bookstores functioned as local hub spaces that provided opportunities to enjoy culture easily by lowering the threshold of cultural accessibility in areas lacking cultural infrastructure. However, there were many operators who had difficulty operating due to a somewhat narrow space, insufficient capital, and limitations in promotion and marketing. Therefore, cooperation and support from the local organizations are needed and efforts by independent bookstores to create cultural value by integrating into the region are also needed.
