This thesis aims for investigating Korean and English consonants correspondence in English loanwords. Korean and English differ in the consonant inventory. For this reason, when an English sound which is not a phoneme in Korean, it is borrowed as the closest sound in Korean inventory. Loanwords also undergo Korean phonological rules after borrowed. This paper deals with phonological phenomenon in loanwords.
A sound which is a phoneme in English, but is allophone in Korean. Some of these sound which are not distinctive in Korean can be perceived by Korean speakers. I will demonstrate these cases in English loanwords. I claim that Korean phonology must account for these sounds.
