Comenius was a Czech who lived during the Thirty Years War, and suffered hardship as a refugee. While advocating sound educational methods and activities through building school while he was a refugee, he wrote more than 200 volumes of treatises and books. Among them, 『The School of Infancy』 was designed for infant education which he considered most important. Comenius's Infant Education contains a Christian purpose, moral purpose, and on intellectual purpose. The Christian purpose is taken as the primary one. His Early Childhood Education theory IS classified into health education, religious education, moral education and knowledge education. he considered religious education the most important one due to man's eternal living in the future life.
Therefore, Christian religious education which is based on believing in Jesus and being saved by faith had to be the preferred educational contents. Moral education which is also called personality education is for living a harmonious and decent life, and is a factor that brings a reward through good deeds in the end. Comenius saw life as school life, so he classified life into infant school, childhood school, boyhood school, adolescent school, adult life school, old man school and death school, and advocated lifelong education. The basic subject in each part is the same but the degree of difficulty at each level is different.
As regards learning method, learning has its own developing stages, moving from easy things to difficult ones and from universal things to special ones. Comenius asserted that man could become perfect through education. When educating infants, he provoked an interest, and let them learn voluntarily. He guided them to play and learn though fun. He thought infants' sense education was important. Teaching principles include the principle of particularization, the principle of variety, the principle of progress, the principle of development, the play principle, the age principle and others. Comenius compiled the pictorial Latin language learner's dictionary for the first time. This was designed to get the effect of optical education by connecting picture and word. Comenius' child-centered educational perspective will be helpful in creating a sound educational climate especially in these days when parents take their children as the means for their proxy satisfaction Today in the field of general education Comenius' child-centered learning theory is enforced in the form of open education or some other forms. Comenius's educational theory may have to be used in church. It seems to be desirable for contemporary Christian educators to apply Comenius' theory because his educational theory originally was based on the Christian world view. It means that general education and Christian education are on the same line when they are viewed through educational philosophy and cannot be separated. Parents and teachers should have their own faith and christianity themselves. Who is God? How was the world created? And what is the purpose of it? What is a human being and what is the purpose of existence? And where is the last destination of human life? Where shall we live in the future life? We should learn the truth of Christianity and also teach it to our children.
1ms is education. Therefore, education is essential. Comenius considered parents' receiving children from God the same as a servant's receiving talents from his master. He even said that imprecation would be upon them, if they neglect educating their children. And he said parents should be sacrifice for their children's education. they should give their children to God by educating them well. Therefore, educational purpose ends in religious purpose. Through education, a human being becomes a real person, lives a happy life and does his or her duty, and lives happily ever after. As shown in the national law, the educational effect is highest in babyhood. A tree has its form in infancy and wax cannot be transformed once it has become hardened. In the same way, good faith, good habits and wise discernment need to be formed in infancy and all are taught by the mother. If the mother is not available, find a good teacher or send a child to an infant educational institution for better education. Clearly the person who is responsible for infant education is the parent Therefore, parents must educate children well in their home and Christian teacher must teach faith, virtue and knowledge to infants in church and in general educational institution. Infant educators also need to focus on parent education so that parents may know the purpose of infant education and educate their children In the right way. Synthetic and all-round education including health, faith, good heart and knowledge should be enforced in Christian homes, Christian churches and general educational fields.
