The diplomatic relationship the Koguryo dynasty had with other regions throughout the North-Eastern Asian society, is a subject frequently studied by various researchers. Record shows that as the Koguryo dynasty was establishing a huge presence inside the area it opened dialogues with several other nearby countries and political bodies, and that the dynasty skillfully employed various types of diplomatic policies, depending on the situation of the North-Eastern Asian commun ity.
Recently the Chinese scholars seem to be also heavily engaged in studying the history of Koguryo's diplomatic relationships. Yet they do not view the history of the Koguryo dynasty as part of Korean history. In fact, based on their own perspective viewing past dynasties' history as part of the Chinese history due to those past dynasties' geographical locations(which are in most cases currently occupied by the present regime of China), they consider the history of the Koguryo dynasty as part of their own Chinese history, They view their own realm as a unified whole, comprised of various multi-national entities, which makes the founders of the Koguryo dynasty being one of many minor nationalities inside the Chinese domain, and Koguryo itself as a mere local entity subjected to the superior authority of the Chinese empires. According to this kind of logic, the relationship between Koguryo and the Chinese empires can no longer be considered 'diplomatic' on Koguryo's part at all. It falsely becomes a Chinese domestic issue.
But the Chinese scholars have often had to tamper with the historical records in order to suit their own claims. And acts like these surely border on distortion of historical truth. In order to counteract such perversive actions, we need not only to closely monitor the Chinese-based researches, but also to reinforce our studies over the history of Koguryo's diplomatic relationships.
