The research about the identity of Koguryo's nation is not sufficient in quantity and quality by Korean scholars, so to categorize scientifically the ethnic group in Koguryo is the first step to reveal the Koguryo's national identity,
In approaching to this problem, we can refer to the foreign, especially North Korean and Chinese scholars, and adopt the inter-diciplinary materials in archeology, linguistics, anthropology, Oriental history and Altai studies, But the foreign archeological materials shows much differences to that by Korean, so the self-referential view point is crucial to find out which ethnic group was the frontier in the state building of Koguryo, The lack of materials calls to reconstruct the mythos(myth) into the logos(history) because the state building myth is the basic and first material to discern the subject in that work. About the Koguryo Empire, what we need is which ethnic groups were rhe subject or the object of the political domination, and how they managed their everyday lives at that time, And every Koguryo researchers have to be equiped with the macro approach and micro analysis in our works.
