Kim Sa-Ryang was one of the Korean writers who was active in his literary activities mainly in Japanese in Japanese literary circles during the Japanese colonial period. He mentioned that the purpose of his engagement in creative writing was to let people know the "culture of Joseon or life and emotion" in Asia or in the world. Considering that the purpose of his literary activities was to deliver the spirits of Joseon in Japanese, his creative literary activities in Japanese could be considered as a kind of exclusive possession.
In this regard, this study regards Kim Sa-Ryang's methods of corresponding to the colonial period through literature as 'post-coloniality.' Besides, this study analyzes his works by means of focusing on the key words such as ambivalence, double layered suppression and diaspore, which are the core concepts of post-colonialism found in the novels written by Kim Sa-Ryang. According to the review, the colonialist mainland hided the ambivalence in its colonialization policy such as 'Follow me. However, 'you can't be the same as me.' Nevertheless, such ambivalence belonged to the colony as well as the colonialist mainland. In this regard, people in the colonized country try to find cracks in ambivalence and frustrate the plan of the colonialist mainland. Second, colonialism has been developed concerning the dominium of lands. That is to say, colonialists have robbed people in the colonized country of their lands or exploited people and moved them and let them dispersed, which were the physical basis of their ideology. However, such a strategy planned by the colonialist mainland is withdrawn in Kim Sa-Ryang's novels. This is the point where there is Kim Sa-Ryang's practical behavior towards resistance in his writing.
