Gim, Youngdon is a person named as a doctor in Jeju island's folksong. He is also a leader on the study of Jeju island. Oh, Yundeok looked upon the memory of him as "a learned man of having a dream and jumping over the obstacle". He is a forerunner in the studies of folksong from the restoration of independence. He studied the folksong as a method of folklore and also taked a esthetic matter into consideration. He elucidated the many-sideness of folksong based on a thorough fieldwork and is also an erudite as an ancestor on the study of local area's culture. He is also named as a person of planning a project putting many things in order. He influenced many a scholar regarding the folklore. Therefore, we must specialize in the future on the folksong of Jeju island.
The chapter of a theory in The Study of Jeju islands Folksong(the 2nd volume of a book) is an outcome of compiling the folklore in Jeju island. From publishing the chapter of a material The Study of Jeju islands Folksong(the lnd volume of a book) he consistently collected a treatise on the matter. The book shows an wholeness on the viewpoint of folksong and his past record of studying the folksong. He is a folklorist emphasizing the actual proof and field report and enlarging the viewpoint on the cultural aspect. The writer dare to designate the Gim, Youngdon, folksong, and woman divers the three blessed fortune of Jeju island's culture. The study of Korea's folksong is enlarged by his influence. We inconveniently feel the missing the systematic direction. This is an assignment of overcoming the subject as youngster scholars including Jwa, Hyegyeong, Byeon, Sunggu, Yang, Youngja, Han, Seunghun, Han, Giheung, Lee, Sunghun, and Gim, Dohun, etc. From now on, they take the initiative in the study of Jeju island's folksong based on the study of Gim, Youngdon. The writer consistently have an interests in the Jeju island's folksong keeping an affinity with greatest care. Finally, the writer pray for the happiness of him singing the Odolttogi(a song representing the beauty of Jeju island).
