The right view of Korea traditional physical training can find a clue to build the theory of proper physical training of Korean style and at the same time to remake Korea-like thought of it from the modem physical education based on Western physical education. So it is very acute to systematically and generally study the Korea traditional physical training, above all.
It is seemed to be valuable to review the theory of physique of Toekye and Yulkok in the Chosun Era, the typical Metaphysics, among diverse thoughts forming a keynote of the thought of physical education. Also the study of physique expressed in the thought of Toekye and Yulkok gives a very important meaning to review the thought of physical education and to show the developing course of the history of Korean physical education at that time.
Though the physical education had standed in a great proposition to form a desirable human nature through the harmonious development of body and mind, it has been inclined to a functional aspect and been not improved in harmony, so to grope for a turning point of thinking, it is deemed to be very important to apply the view of physical education of Toekye and Yulkok to strengthen a thoughtful meaning of physical education.
Reviewed Toekye's physical education as followings.
Our modem physical education has been developed in a system of the Western dichotomy-dualism, and resulted in weakening a theoretical and mental aspect due to strengthening the practical and objective physical function. So it is necessary to highlight the monism of mind and body, that is, bringing the mental aspect in the movement of body, balancing and harmonizing each other, and accomplish 'Respect'.
And Yulkok showed an educational contents to reach a holy man, an ideal person and emphasized to equally develop knowledge, virtue and body similar to today Education for the whole man. In the present status dominated by the Western style Physical education imported in the age of civilization, it stressed moral element as well functional and exhibited a necessity of a course centering humanity. So it is very meaningful in the point showing a basic data of the Korean style physical education in the study.
