Yoon Dong-Joo is one of the most important poet in Korean modern history and history of Korean literature. Although there have been many research on his poems, it still remains as a controversial issue whether his poems could be regarded as resistant literature.
Analysing Yoon's resistant poems can provide a clue to research the general concept of resistant poems and also be very helpful to find a effective way in teaching resistant poems. This study tries to search for the relation between Yoon and resistant poems and propose a good way of teaching resistant poems.
By literature survey on previous researches which assess Yoon's poems as resistant poems, we came to know that critical thinking on his time and reality is an important moment. From this viewpoint, we analyzed many works of him and found that correct awareness of realities of poetic subjective is the most important element in understanding resistant poems.
In particular, we payed attention to his major motif 'shame'. 'Shame' not only has negative meaning as conscience and reflection, but also plays an important role to give power to go for a historical practice.
In that sense, resistant poem seems to be historical conscience and result of Yoon's maturity in his poetic and historic consciousness. And we can see that the resistant poem, as a genre in literature, is closely related with historical consciousness of poets.
Resistant poems can be understood as a artistic work written by literary choice, not by political purpose. So, in order to analyze and appreciate poems, students should be taught to learn the history and symbols of contemporary literature. When students know that self-reflection and insight into his time made the poets write resistant poems, they can get more deep understanding of literature and poets.
