This study aims at examination of Doaenghaeng's meanings as one of Okhwangibong series and investigation of its literary world by analyzing motives and writer's consciousness. First of all, Doaengbaeng was created within the relations with Okhwangibong. This is seen in similarities in the description of characters and in fictional relations among characters, the way of writing that evaluates historic characters through creation of a fiction, and common subject matters. At the same time, Doaenghaeng is related to other derivative works. Chuimisamseonrok was written in adopting the incidents and characters of Doaenghaeng. In case of Hanjosamseonggibong, the formation of characters therein was influenced from Doaenghaeng. Through studying the linkages among Okhwangibong's derivations, it was found that Doaenghaeng was the first work among them, and thus, it played a role as a bridge between the original work and its derivative works. While Okhwangibong reevaluates 'Queen Eum', a family-oriented character, Doaengbaeng focuses on the reinterpretation of 'Judang', a politically historic character. Through the estimation of Judang, it reveals a scholar's agony on his course of action and a flexible way of thinking in political considerations. However, Doaenghaeng applauds 'Jeongweeju's' faithfulness to her ex-fiance and allows free actions only to women in lower class. In other words, it shows conservative viewpoint on women's being. The major organizational features of Doaenghaeng, that is, quests, and questions and answers, play a role in inducing changes in estimation of main characters. Through a long process of quests, Jeongwiju is reborn as a noble faithful wife. Through questions and answers between Judang and Nokgi, Judang becomes an ordinary person who admits his own self-contradiction. Doaenghaeng reproduces Okhwangibong's official themes while taking over the concerns on history.
