The study aims to examine flashbacks that disclose the video aesthetics of TV dramas from a viewpoint of performing arts. The flashbacks that were used to provide past information in a serial TV drama at an early stage began to be introduced to various TV dramas in the 2000s in relations to characters, structures and depiction emerging as the most effective way of ensuring video aesthetics in TV dramas.
As a result of examination of drama mini series, 'Lovers in Prague' and 'Good-bye Solo', TV dramas made in the 2000s that showed excellent flashbacks, following have been found. Flashbacks have been used in various ways in TV dramas by repeating past scenes, explaining characters' personality and emotions, building dramatic tension, providing a key to resolution and bringing past situations to a focus helping realize dramatic immediacy.
The study has found that the basis of flashbacks in TV dramas was different from films in terms of aesthetic formats. The results are expected to help TV dramas that still remain in the realm of entertainment despite their huge socio-cultural influence establish status as performing arts.
