This study gives an eye to folktale's context of 〈JanghwaHongyeonJeon〉 that is very important but not attractive to any existing researchers. Specially, there are three deaths that must have a sacrificial rites’ tradition's approach because it is extraordinary. These deaths can be relative to ritual sacrifice and this viewpoint can be a clue to raise a new issue in 〈JanghwaHongyeonJeon〉 researches.
This study gives a viewpoint that 〈JanghwaHongyeonJeon〉 has several lamination layers associated with ritual sacrifice. We can find a trace of filial piety's sacrifice motives in Janghwa's death. Also we can find a changing trace from true mother to stepmother who ill-treats or kills her children. We can find a structure relative to extinction of sacrificial rites’ tradition in many new provincial governors' deaths. Finally we can find another scapegoats' motif in stepmother's death.
〈JanghwaHongyeonJeon〉 to reflect changing to modern ages, reviews on the medieval ages' ritual narrative and makes a new scapegoats to be in need to its' ages. In brief, 〈JanghwaHongyeonJeon〉 shows an accumulative process that sacrificial rites’ mechanism accommodates itself to new surroundings from ancient times through to modern ages.
