The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of angular velocity on muscle strength and activity of knee flexor and extensor. Subjects was classified into three groups, which were 60°/sec angular velocity group(n=10), 180°/sec angular velocity group(n=10) and 240°/sec angular velocity group(n=10). Each group was applied to perform the isokinetic exercises on flexion muscle group for each 7 times in 3 set(2 days per a week for 4 weeks). Muscle strength was measured using peak torque of quadriceps femoris and muscle activity was measured using RMS(roots mean square) of rectus femoris, biceps femoris, and semitendinosus. The results were as follows: 1. The peak torque was significantly increased after 4 weeks application of 60°/sec angular velocity isokinetic exercise(p<.05), however, it was not significantly after 180°/sec angular velocity isokinetic exercise application, and 240°/sec angular velocity isokinetic exercise application(p>.05). 2. The muscle activity was significantly increased after 60°/sec angular velocity isokinetic exercise application on biceps femoris and semitendinosus(p<.05), however, it was not significantly after 180°/sec angular velocity isokinetic exercise application, and 240°/sec angular velocity isokinetic exercise application(p>.05). This study showed that 60°/sec angular velocity isokinetic exercise application were effective treatment strategy on increase of muscle strength. Therefore, it could be considered as a treatment method in the athlete and patients with musculoskeletal disease.
