The purpose of this study was to examine the perceptions and preferences of college students into traditional foods.
A Survey was collected from 211 college students in Gangwon-do area, who come from a variety of the provinces. The statistical analysis of frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation was performed by use of SPss program, the significant difference between groups was examined by x²-test and their correlation.
The overall recognition of traditional foods was low with the exception of seasonable and festive foods. Memilmakkooksu is the highest recognition and preference among 30 kinds of three types of the local food at a rate of 75.8 percent.
Compared the local food of Gangwon area with the other provinces, recognition and a preference was poor.
According to the result of Survey, from the recognition and preference of traditional food, generally unfamiliar food name appears low.
In order to raise the recognition of the Gangwon's regional food, enhance the level of education, knowledge and preference.
Thus. they need to make constant efforts to meet the regional food easily, make an opportunity to taste the traditional food and concentrate on the unique savor and menu so that it can be grafted into tourism product through the mass media and interest of the public institution.
