The objective of this paper is to discuss a feasibility of developing a early career development planning (CDP) for international trade students. The CDP has been recognized as an important method for advanced professionals but there is a few research works of using CDP for international trade professionals.
Several meaningful research propositions are derived from this paper. First, prospective international trade professionals considers the CDP is very important because it gives his/her career prospects, career satisfaction and career committment. Second, individual career planning has positive effects on career tactics, career commitment, and career prospects which ultimately positively influenced on career development planning outcomes. Third, personal career commitment has been found as a crucial role for personal career execution. Therefore, organizational supportive framework for university graduates has to be implemented so that international trade professionals at his (or her) early career stage can increase the level of individual career commitment.
This model helps to improve individual career competence in international trade area, and thus to increase the industrial competitiveness. Though the limitations of results in this study the suggested model would significantly reduce the structural gap between industry expectations and the quality level of university graduates.
