The main aim of this study is to analyze European creative industries and their future in the transition period from culture industries to creative ones. Creative industries are less national, and more global and local/regional. The creative industries can be defined as those industries that have their origin in individual creativity, skill and talent and which have a potential for wealth and job creation through the generation and exploitation of intellectual property.
After presenting the definition of creative industry and its model (heavily industrialized and commodified industries & less industrialized cultural and creative activities), I examine the structure of creative industries and their labor market which can be divided into profit and non-profit sectors.
I also treat the importance of the creative sector from the economic and social point of view: (1) core industries of the creative economy (2) bourgeois and bohemian ideology, etc.
In the forth chapter, European characteristics including cultural consumption market are discussed in comparison to other regions (USA, Asia). As a result, Europeans show high-level cultural indicators. In conclusion, the quality of cultural consumption of Europeans is very high. In the fifth chapter, centering on the copyright, I examine the influence of new technology changes (computer tech, video, sound reproduction, etc.) on the creative economy. Finally, the twelve propositions are presented as practical solutions to develop the future of creative industries.
