In order to discover the origin of the costume culture of Kojosun, we have studied that of the era prior to Kojosun by throughly observing spinning and weaving machinery, sewing requisites, and hair ornaments as specific objects. Textile manufacture and the sewing technology of the early neolithic era of Korean Peninsula and Manchuria region seem to have improved a lot in most places, in the latter period. In terms of the scale of producing organization, the output, and the diversity of producing contents, Hongsan cultural region shows the situation where it is historically the most advanced and abundant in quantity, and where it sits on higly advanced status. Later on, the scale of producing organization in Yodong Peninsula expands and the producing contents become abundant in quantity, The Pyeongyanh region of Korean Peninsula develops its scale of producing organization and the output shortly after.
According to the distribution chart of regions of the excavated hair ornaments, the era of use and material, and style are summed up as following. We can notice that the hair ornaments were used in all regions as they are excavated in all remain sites of Korean Peninsula and Manchuria region. Assuming from the distribution chart of excavated hair ornaments, the put-up hair style of Kojosun era was formed in the neolithic era. It is common for the hair ornaments be plain without any patterns, but there are some figured ornaments with dots and lines. The most commonly found type of the hair ornaments are those with less pattern; other types of ornaments which are decorated with dots and linear patters are less frequently found. These patterns are shown to have the same style with carved clayware or distaff tools excavated from the Korean peninsula and the Manchuria region.
By far, the study of the costume history has been focusing on the study of the history of costume style based on excavated costume and pictures. There is a way for such study of costume history to overcome the limit. The study of history of costume culture in ancient times based on the excavated costume-related relics is the way. Especially, it is more likely to be applied for the ornaments like accessories. Futurestudy of costume should move on to the study of antiquities costume rather than permanently clinging to the study of excavated costume. As more and more excavated data are accumulated from the Korean peninsula and Manchuria region, now it is the stage where antique excavation reports should be particularly utilized as an important data for the study of costume history like the date of excavated costume.
