This thesis is to inquire into a true theme which this novel aims at through Kim Yeo-hae’s deviation and the intention of the sympathizer who leave it as it is. The space and time of this work is of a Seoul in 1930s. It is said that Hyeon Jin-geon gets a serious ill before he writes this work. Under the condition of serious illness, he could not help writing the work as means of living. Some say that the incompleteness of this work results from this fact. The incompleteness corresponds to a defect of composition, that is, a lack of inevitability in a causal relation among incidents.
In this work which begins at “The spring of Seoul comes among the snowflakes”, the course of time starting from Kim Yeo-hae’s disimprison in early spring to his death is about one month. The writer presents the scene of Kim Yeo-hae’s imprisonment, reminding the reader of the meaning of spring several times in its beginning. However, without delay, he changes the scene to let the reader have a curiosity on the criminal-type character Kim Yeo-hae who has old scores to settle and discontent. The reason is that, it can be said, the Japanese exercises rigid censorship on printed matter, and also he couldn't describe the fighter-type character under the context of composition from the beginning. In the preceeding of the work, the situation of reversal of falsehood and truth of character grabs reader’s interests. In addition to this situation, the incidents are being made, with the protagonist Kim Yeo-hae who has kind of knowledge and romantics becoming a criminal, and having a feature of a villain.
Though the incidents are developed under the condition of transfiguration of Kim Yeo-hae’s character, rather, the things of sympathizing and supporting for him happens. In this situation, unpatriotic property and falsehood of colonialization capital become uncovered, and Kim Yeo-hae’s sacrifice who degraded into a criminal becomes embossed.
