The main purpose of this study was to examine the effect of spirituality on parent’s positive perception of parenting children with disabilities. Data from 189 parents of children with disabilities who had used social service facilities and a school for the disabilities.
There are the research results. The level of parent’s positive perception of parenting children with disability is different, based upon the sex of parent. Also the spirituality is positively correlated with whether respondent has a religion or not, the level of religious activity, education level of respondent and respondent’s health, and parent’s positive perception is positively correlated with respondent’s health, the level of religious activity, and education level of respondent. The spirituality is positively correlated with parent’s positive perception of parenting children with disability. The result of the analysis showed more middle level of parent’s positive perception of parenting children with disability and middle level of spirituality. Finally, the level of spirituality of parent and parents’ health provided a positive effect and whether respondent has a religion or not provided a negative effect on parent’s positive perception.
Based on the results, suggestions were made for social work practice for family of children with disabilities. However, to improve parent’s positive perception of parenting children with disability, social services and programs should be prepared to enhance the spirituality of parent. Besides that, further researches which is focused on various valuables which effect on parent’s positive perception of parenting children with disability should be conducted.
