This study is to inquire into discourses as well as norms concerning the theology of the pain of God in Kitamori’s thinking in the theological horizon after Hiroshima and Nagasaki. This theology of Kitamori assumes the concept of the passibility of God (Deus passibilis) in oder to overcome Deus impassibilis, an axiom of apatheia and immutability in Greek philosophy. He views the pain of God in Jeremiah and Romans, that is, the pain of God in Jeremiah is one with theologia cruris that Paul investigates thoroughly the Crucified Christ. By naturally being against theologia gloriae, Kitamori under the influence of Martin Luther combines the anger and love of God as the duplicity of the revelation with the concept of the pain of God as tertium.
Kitamori who develops the theology of the pain of God in the horizon of Luther’s theologia cruds considers the pain of God as the revelation and nature of God. By having not an interest in generatio and processio as the act of God that deals with opera trinitatis ad intra in the classical doctrine of the Trinity, Kitamori is concerned about the cross of Christ as the pain of God placed on the center of the Trinity. In this way, Kitamori’s concept of the pain of God newly intends to construct the nature of God.
The other side, in the frame of his theology of the pain of God, Kitamori is absorbed in investigating the relation between the pain of God and the historical Jesus, which does not admit that we overlook the pain of God viewing the historical Jesus, conversely it come the same thing. From the point of view of Kitamori, the love of God is the love deeply rooted in pain of God. God heals the injured moaning human being in agony. Besides, Kitamori’s ethics of Nachfolge makes analogia doloris by receiving analogia entis, not analogia entis that is not present in K. Barth’s theological thinking. Finally, Kitamori’s theology of the pain of God really is open.
