The purpose of this study was to investigate the changes of the level of muscle preactivation and kinematic variables during jump performance from the three different jump patterns. The subjects who were 10 male college students were instructed to jump randomly on the force platform or a 40 cm height jump box with a counter movement jump(CMJ), a drop jump(DJ), and a vertical jump including a preliminary jump(PJ). The integrated EMG(iEMG) during preactivation phase from lower extremity muscles was computed, while the vertical ground reaction force(VGRF) and kinematic variables during propulsive phase were calculated. The peak VGRF was significant increased in DJ during the propulsive phase(p<.05). The positive peak angular velocity of the thigh in DJ was greater than in CMJ and PJ, whereas the negative peak angular velocity of the shank in CMJ was greater than in DJ and PJ during the propulsive phase(p<.05). The level of iEMG had only significant quantitative enhancement in Tibialis Anterior muscle during preactivtion phase(p<.05). The jump height as a result of jump performance didn’t show significant differences form these jump patterns(p>.05). Therefore these observations confirm that the height of starting position and the supplementary movement preceding a main jump couldn’t improve the value of preactivation of the lower extremity muscles and the jump height during the jump performance.
