One of central projects of Okinawa research would be a study on social structures around ‘Munchu,’ a paternal investment group. As full-scale discussion was conducted around anthropology and folklore in 1960’s, various studies have been accumulated up to the present day. The key focus of research on Munchu was that it is difficult to apply universal relative theory that reflects various cases between the ‘ideal type’ of applying the paternal blood relation exclusively and the ‘practice type’ of others. Then, it would be possible to grasp the Okinawa society dynamically by investigating when and how such ideal type of Munchu was developed and how the ‘practical type’ of Munchu occurred under which social and cultural background. Therefore, the body of this research investigated historical formation process of the lineage viewpoint related to the principle of paternal blood relation through abundant regional documents of the Ryukyu Dynasty Period that remain in Yaeyama District. As a result, it was identified that the Ryukyu Dynasty introduced a caste system in the process of establishing a centralized ruling system, and tried to maintain the caste system through paternal blood relation principle. Then, this study describe the social and cultural background of paternal blood relation principle by investigating the modern meaning of blood relation principle that has been established throughout history.
