In the formation of our modern novel, the narrative of enlightenment by Lee In Jik and Lee Kwang Su shows both result and limitation. When we compare Kim Dong In`s novels with them, his novels show a different aspect of result and limitation among the other novelists` works in 1920`s. I intend to discuss how the discovery of an artist is related with the formation of our modern novel at this thesis. For this purpose, I look into <Mad Heat Sonata> and <Kwang Hwa Sa> by Kim Dong In. Kim Dong In tried to the radical cutting between ethics and aesthetics. To speak briefly, his revolution was an aesthetic revolution, his heresy was the heresy from the ethics, and his passion was for building the self-evident art with removing of the remainder of enlightenment in art and literature. When I look into two novels, the artists in his novel exist as Id, and are the production of his mental discord, who can`t co-exist with the circumferent order. He creates the artists of extreme madness intentively instead of the classical or romantic artists. These artists create the artistic work with the ``accidental``, ``momentary``, and ``impulsive`` senses. And they create the work in the psychological states like pain, fascination, trembling and rapture. The artists who are described at Kim Dong In`s two novels aren`t represented based on our real world, but are discovered by his mind. Kim Dong In, the representative of our modern writer, recognized the inner superiority of himself, negated the logic of enlightenment, and pursued the aesthetic itself. And he embodied this type of human through the artist in his two novels.
