This study examines the construct of learning ability in individuals studying Korean. Unlike previous KFL studies, the present study measures both cognitive and psychological factors, and interprets whole factors as one dynamic system. The individual factors measured include: sound discrimination ability, language analysis ability, working memory (WM), motivation, and anxiety. Both receptive and productive knowledge is measured as learners’ linguistic proficiency. A total of intermediate to high-intermediate learners of Korean from the US, France, China, and Japan completed a (ⅰ) phonological coding and language analysis test, (ⅱ) working memory span test, (ⅲ) motivation and anxiety survey, (ⅳ) reading and listening test for receptive knowledge, (vi) and a production test for productive knowledge upon complexity, accuracy, and fluency. A structural equation model was constructed to explain learners’ linguistic achievements. The model was found to adequately fit, and both significant and non-significant factors were discussed. The model explains the dynamic aspect of language acquisition in context of Korean language learning.
