The purpose of this study is to investigate effects of sleep deprivation on the changes of EEG, fatigue metabolic substrate, and stress hormone following maximal exercise. All subjects were 10 male physical education students who had volunteered to participate in this study. Time of sleep deprivation were divided into four condition(sleep 8 h, 4 h, 2 h, and 0 h) by within subject of research method. All subjects were acclimatized to the experimental sleep condition by spending one night under experimental conditions. Blood CK, LDH, lactate, GH, cortisol, and epinephrine concentrations were measured at maximal exercise before, immediately and 20 min after exercise. Data were analyzed by means of ANOVA with repeated measures SPSS/PC+. The results are summarized as follows: Sleep deprivation has associated with decreased a-wave mental concentration in EEG. Blood CK, LDH, and lactate concentration following maximal exercise increased remarkably in sleep 0h than sleep 8h, and 4h. The changes of stress hormones following maximal exercise showed no significantly differences in time of sleep deprivation. In conclusion, sleep deprivation induced harmful effects on mental concentration and exercise recovery capacity however, the changes of stress hormone following maximal exercise were not directly affected by sleep deprivation.
