This study examined human emotional responses to chromacity of LED lighting with a brightness of 100 lx. The nine hues used in the experiment were R, YR, Y, GY, G, BG, B, P, and RP, and the three chromas used were high, intermediate, and low. By combining these hues and chromas, a total of 27 lighting elements were created for which emotional evaluation and preference assessment were conducted. The results were as follows: in terms of relaxation, stabilization, and luxuriousness, the intermediate and low chromaa with R, YR, and Y were evaluated highly, with more effectiveness displayed for the lower chroma. In particular, Y with low chroma was shown to reduce negative feelings such as “nervousness, depression, anxiety, and stuffiness,” while increasing positive emotions, such as stability and comfort. For creating futuristic, cutting-edge, and mystical atmospheres, hues such as BG, B, P, and RP were highly evaluated, with higher chroma inducing more effective results. In order to create light and glamorous atmospheres, warm hues such as R, YR, Y, and RP in high chroma were adequate. In terms of the temperature of the lighting, the respondents reported that hues such as BG and B were cooler, and hues such as R, YR, Y, and RP were warmer. Negative emotions such as “nervousness, depression, anxiety, and stuffiness” were highly evaluated for R, B, and RP that were in high chroma. Lastly, examination of the preference for lighting colors showed that the respondents liked all colors of lower chroma, especially color Y in low chroma. In addition, BG was found to be preferred across the border regardless of its chroma level.
