The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of the professor’s non-verbal communication on the learner`s attitude in Taekwon-dance class. This paper seeks to propose a logical foundation for the importance of pedagogy based on non-verbal communication in an active, practical driven class, and to contribute to the development of effective pedagogical methods to improve the learner`s immersion, interest, and concentration in class.
430 university students participating in Taekwon-dance class in university were sampled for this study. The self-administered questionnaire survey method was used, where the researcher would explain the purpose and method of the study and the respondent would fill out the survey. Excluding 14 questionnaires that could contaminate the study results, a total of 416 questionnaires were used as the final data. Statistical analysis was carried out using the statistical package program SPSS 22.0 ver, and to verify the hypothesis, a multiple regression analysis was conducted to examine the effect of independent variables on dependent variables.
The results showed that all factors of non-verbal communication of the professor in the Taekwondance class(body appearance, semantic language, body language, and spatial language) had a statistically significant positive effect on concentration in class, a sub-factor of class attitude(p<.05), and a partially significant positive effect on interest in class and immersion in class(p<.05). Therefore the study hypothesis was adopted partially. The result of the study shows that the learner`s class attitude improves as the non-verbal communication of the professor improves in Taekwon-dance class. Thus, non-verbal communication can be seen as an important factor that positively affects the learner"s attitude in class.
