This study was carried out to develop a scale to measure airline service quality. Through literature review, 83 preliminary items were selected. A survey with experts was conducted three times to modify, add and eliminate items inappropriate for the measurement of airline service quality, and a total of 55 items were set up as the items of preliminary indicators for a main survey. The main survey assessed the importance of the items with local residents who had experienced boarding on an international flight during the past three years, and samples of 300 copies were used as the data for analysis. Methods of analysis included: An exploratory factor analysis for validation, a confirmatory factor analysis to verify the explanatory power of constructs for the assessment of the construct validity and a correlation analysis to verify discriminant validity among the factors. As a result of the analyses, seven factors were extracted and nine items were eliminated to draw a total of 46 items. Indicators to measure airline service quality were named as safety and convenience service, duty-free service, in-flight meal service, physical service, benefit service, personal service and ground service. The development of a scale that sufficiently reflects the characteristics of airline services in this study has significance for the improvement of airline service quality, and it is expected that very promising, future-oriented follow-up studies will be carried out using the scale developed.
