This study focuses on how the usage of ‘geureonikka’ words in spoken discourse appears in different gender. It is said that the original form of word ‘geureonikka’ appears in the spoken discourse in different forms such as ‘geunikka’, ‘geunkka’ and ‘geukka’, and those abbreviated forms are said to acquire more functions as a discourse marker. This study regards the words ‘geunikka’, ‘geunkka’ and ‘geukka’ as the abbreviation of ‘geureonikka’ and examines how their usage differs in men and women. For reference, Sejong Corpus(Korean National Corpus) was used and the semantic function was divided into ‘semantic relation of speech utterances before and after the word’ and ‘the connection of speech utterance and the right of speech utterance’. The frequency rate of using the word ‘geureonikka’ is found to be higher in men than in women, and for abbreviated form, men used ‘geunikka’ and women used ‘geunkka’ the most. Although men and women did not show a significant difference in the semantic relation of speech utterances before and after the word, men used more of ‘geureonikka’ words as a semantic function of causality than women. Therefore, it is discovered that men prefer the prototype and basic meaning of a word in the use of language, and it is more frequent in women to use abbreviations due to their ability of faster speed of variation. In addition, in the process of connecting the right of speech utterance, men used ‘geureonikka’ words more in order to win the competition of the right of speech utterance, whereas women used them to let others know of their intention to maintain the right of speech utterance. This signifies that in conversations, men consider the continuation of their speech utterance more importantly whereas women put more importance in the continuation of discourse.
