This article is to rethink the historical word, ‘Occupation’ and compare the experiences of ‘Occupation’ in European and Korea Histories. Even if the Korean society called the Japanese Colonial Period 1910-1945 as a Japanese Occupation, the latter has very complicate meanings. Because this word has various notions like annexion, occupation, and colonization. So we tried to understand a character of the period 1910-1945 comparing the occupational experiences of Europe. We focused on the Nazi Occupation's cases in the contemporary history of Europe. First, we examined the relationship between Austria and Nazi. This case was called the ‘Annexion’ instead of the word, ‘Occupation’. Because Austria was annexed by Nazi in the military and cultural dimensions. Second, we dealt with the relationship between the Vichy Government and the Nazi. This case could be defined by the occupying and the occupied countries instead of the word, ‘Colonization’. French historians didn't regard this historical event as a case of colonization. They thought that the word, ‘colonization’, applied only to the relationship between French Empire and its colonies. Third, we looked at the case of France and its colonies, especially Algeria. Even if the Vichy Government was under Germany Occupation, it constantly conserved its colonies. This Government controlled the colonies making accepter two new ideologies, ‘Nation Revolution’, ‘New Europe’, stronger than ever. On this perspective, the Vichy Government under Germany Occupation has simultaneously double positions as a occupied and a colonial ruler. Through this investigation of the Occupational experience in Europe, it is necessary to rethink a new definition for the period 1910-1945 of Korea.
