Angiogenesis is an esential step in tumor progressand metastasis. Accordingly, smal molecules that inhibitangiogenesis would appear to be a promising way to cureangiogenesis-related diseases, including cancer. In the presentstudy, we report that streptochlorin, a small molecule fromThe compound potently inhibited endothelial cel invasionand tube formation stimulated with vascular endothelial celgrowth factor (VEGF) at low micromolar concentrationswhere it showed no cytoxicity to the cells. In addition,streptochlorin inhibited TNF-α-induced NF-κB activation inthe newly developed cell-based reporter gene assay. Thesedata demonstrate that streptochlorin is a new inhibitor of NF-κB activation and can be a basis for the development of novelanti-angiogenic agents.
