The efects of Haematococcus pluvialis extracellularproducts on microbial growth and bacteriocin production wereinvestigated to improve bacteriocin synthesis during the growthcycle of Lactobacilli. Lactobacilus pentosus KJ-108, L. plantarumKJ-1031, and L. sakei KJ-2008 were cultured in MRS andenriched medium (ERM) with or without supplement of theextracelular products obtained from a late exponential phaseculture of Haematococcus pluvialis in modified Bold’s basalproducts strongly enhanced the growth as well as thebacteriocin production of al the lactic acid bacteria tested.The enhancing effect was observed in ERM with pH adjustedat 5 and 6. In addition, some diference in growth effects withthe extracellular products of H. pluvialis was observed betweenpH 5 and 6 in ERM, but no effect was observed in theminimal medium. The final biomas and the final concentrationof bacteriocin activity were associated with the cel growththat was promoted by the extracellular products of H. pluvialis,and the enhanced cell growth of the three lactic acid bacterialstrains induced the increase of the specific bacteriocin production.Therefore, bacteriocin production and activity were influencedby the addition of the extracelular products of H. pluvialis inthe culture medium.
