The present study suggests a new direction for movement education that applies integrated methods as a concrete and effective measure for the promotion of dance classes in elementary schools. Under the study, as a constructive suggestion for dance classes in expressive activities in elementary schools, programs were designed in a way that made movement a tool to be used in expressive activities and for the understanding of lessons through the integration of other classes and expressive activities. The present study focuses on expressive activities through body language along with the value and importance of education. To that end, the study strategically developed programs in conjunction with other classes with a primary focus on the possibility to link with other classes. The programs were implemented in the form of 40-minute classes conducted a total of 6 times with the participation of 30 students from May 30, 2008 in K elementary school located in Sungdong-gu, Seoul. The findings were yielded through qualitative research methodology including participatory observation, in-depth interviews, questionnaires, and so on. Through this study, a tremendous potential of classes with expressive activities was noted. I think a curriculum with a well-linked flow should be developed so that, building on its potential, it could be viewed as a creative expressive activity evolving gradually from movement. To that end, concrete measures are called for, such as a paradigm shift in teaching-learning methodology as in the field of choreographic education. To conclude, as a practical measure to make sure that teachers are better utilized, various materials and tools that are easier and more effective for teachers who did not necessarily major in choreography should be developed for the promotion of choreographic class and for greater effectiveness of classes.
