This study started from above this question. The Republic of China has been emphasizing on ‘Identity Politics’, that is ‘Sinocentrism’, but HongKong and Taiwan has been going astray and emerging on ‘locality’. ‘Homogeneous and empty’ imaginable spaces and times have been made by integration of nationalism or patriotism. But individuals’ memories and lives could not been explained/represented within one paradigm of nationalism and might have been buried in oblivion. So Emerging ‘locality’ or ‘transnational’ is very keen over this discourse.
HongKong, Taiwan and Korea have shared of similar colonial history, each of them has re-constructed memories of history in different ways. Also HongKong, Taiwan and China have common cultural heritages, but they have recalled memories in a way of different representation. Specially in the 8,90s, HongKong theatre had imagined HongKong’s future after returning to China. In 80s, many local theatres of HongKong were thinking over ‘Hongkongness(本土意識)’, ‘HongKong’s own subjectivity’. So I studied of how to represent HongKong’s memories and history by HongKongers their own language, even though it has faced the fate of disappearing.
Wangdeway suggested that the sinophone discourse opposed to an unidirectional orbital motion, which was searching for the root. That is providing the place where can talk about the meaning of trans-national’s ‘hyphen(-)’. It could be the challenge to the hegemony of ‘identity politics’. When each local(HongKong, Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, etc.) could have read each histories and lives with their own language, not be stuck in the nation, would have searched for diverse uniting ways between trans and national.
