In 2018, the Ministry of Education announced a revised curriculum for the high school Korean history subject. The key point is that it constructed the curriculum for middle school, centering around the history in the pre-modern period while it constructed that for high school, centering around the modern and contemporary history, and for the modern and contemporary history, it focused on seeking the historical origins of the present major issues in Korean society and the problem-solving methods.
In the textbooks, the armed independence movement was one of the major independence movement strategies, which was presented as the representative route of the movement to restore national sovereignty through the army raised in the cause of justice from the end of the Joseon Dynasty, and the characteristics were presented by each period, such as the setup of the independence movement base and the organization of the independence army after the forced annexation, and the declaration of the independence war in 1920. Especially, the armed independence movement was divided into armed struggle and patriotic struggle and presented around the methods and examples.
At this time, visual materials were actively used to help learners’ understanding. The contents of the textbook should be presented based on ‘responsible materials,’ and it is important to select the references that can support the public confidence in the textbooks. This study aims to review the materials that can be said to be the basis of this interrelationship.
