Purpose
Although systemic chemotherapy is used as the standard treatment for stage IV gastric cancer (mGC), there is increasing evidence that palliative gastrectomy in combination with systemic chemotherapy can improve the prognosis of mGC in selected cases. This retrospective study was conducted to evaluate the impact of palliative gastrectomy on the prognosis of patients with mGC.
Method
A retrospective study was conducted with a total of 429 mGC patients who received systemic chemotherapy at Korea Cancer Center Hospital from 2011 to 2018. mGC patients were classified into chemotherapy alone group (CA, n=187), gastrectomy plus chemotherapy group (GC, n=140), and recurrence group (RG, n=102). The clinicopathological variables between groups were compared by Chi-squared test. Kaplan-Meier method and Cox proportional hazards model were used for univariate and multivariate survival analysis.
Result
No significant differences were found between mGC groups in sex, age, WHO histology, HER2 expression, Borrmann type, and tumor location, however statistical differences were found in metastatic site (p<0.001) and first-line chemotherapy (p<0.001). The median overall survival ( ... 전체 초록 보기
