Entering 2021, businesses have been reluctant to recruit new staff due to the economic burden as a result of the spread of COVID-19. Therefore, it is anticipated that college students majoring in cosmetology will experience difficulties finding a job after graduation. Under such unfavorable circumstances, it is important to prepare countermeasures. As occupational consciousness guidance becomes a critical factor, today’s cosmetology education has not adequately responded to trend changes, and stereotypes that influence occupational consciousness development. If students get a job with poor occupational consciousness, their self-efficacy decreases, and they tend to easily give up if they encounter an unexpected situation, thereby imparting a negative effect on their academic major. In other words, the importance and necessity of occupational consciousness and career confidence enhances satisfaction with their academic major and also has a considerable influence on self-efficacy. The goal of this study is to find an effective way to improve self-efficacy by increasing occupational consciousness. For this, a questionnaire survey was performed among college students majoring in cosmetology in Seoul and Gyeonggi from June 1 to September 25, 2020. A total of 520 copies were distributed, and 500 were used for final analysis. The results found the following: As occupational consciousness increased, self-efficacy also increased. If opportunities for lectures and discussions are given and student-centered educational environments, in which students actively participate and freely display their competencies, school attitude is expected to improve. Hence, this study is meaningful in that it has implications on other fields of study.
