Chrysin is a major flavonoid of propolis that possesses physiological activities. We previously found a hydroxymethoxyl analogue on C4 of chrysin (CM) from gamma-irradiated chrysin. In this study, to examine whether CM has better potential as an anti-inflammatory candidate than chrysin, water solubility and anti-inflammatory activity of CM were investigated. CM showed the enhanced water solubility and lower cytotoxicity in bone marrow-derived dendritic cells (BMDCs) compared with original chrysin.
