The Presbyterian Church of America began in 1692 in the United States and has continued to rise and grow. A series of revival movements sparked a passion for missionary work, and the Presbyterian Church actively carried out overseas missions. Through the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions (ABCFM), missionaries were sent to many countries, including Korea in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The Presbyterian Church of America's overseas mission led the Christian mission of the United States. The Presbyterian Church of America's overseas mission led the Christian mission of the United States. They conducted overseas missions using many evangelical methods along with medical and educational missions. However, liberal theology, which emerged from the end of the 19th century, shook the theology of the Presbyterian Church in the United States, which resulted in a decrease in missionary enthusiasm. The main character and event were Charles A. Briggs in 1890 and Auburn Affirmation in 1922. The decisive event was the publication of the book "Re-Thinking Missions" in 1932, which led to the division of the Presbyterian Church. Since then, under the influence of ecumenical theology, mission theology in the Presbyterian Church of America has resulted in social justice, social participation, and humanization, which inevitably led to the weakening of traditional overseas missions. This paper aims to reveal the correlation between the history of the American Presbyterian Church and how the deterioration of mission theology led to the weakening of the American Presbyterian Church's overseas mission.
