Purpose : The purpose of this study is to compare the sentence complexity of dialogue and narration from traditional fairy tales. Methods : Five traditional fairy tales provided by Junior Naver were selected to count the number of dialogue and narration sentences. Sentences were divided into simple and complex sentences, And the average length of sentences was analyzed. Results : First, the dialogue was more than the narration. Second, there were more simple sentences than complex sentences in dialogue and more complex sentences in narration. Third, the average length of the sentence was longer in the narration. Conclusions : In traditional fairy tales, the number of sentences had more dialogue, but the narration’s sentences were longer and more complicated. These results suggest that when applying traditional fairy tales to children’s learning, the complexity and length of the syntax should be considered, and the dialogue and narration should be approached separately.
