This study empirically analyzed correlations between factors affecting school adaptation and school dropout among college students from cosmetology department with a goal of helping students fit in to their school and minimize school dropout. For this, a questionnaire containing 12 general questions and 46 questions regarding factors affecting school adaptation was developed and distributed to the college students from cosmetology-related departments. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS v. 21.0 through frequency analysis, cross-tabulation analysis, independent sample t-test, one-way ANOVA and logistic regression analysis. The results found the followings: First, in dropouts and stayers, the biggest difference (1.25 in average) was observed in academic self-efficacy. In terms of difference in factors affecting school dropout, ‘career identity’ was the highest with 1.09, followed by ‘interaction with the faculty (1.07)’, ‘satisfaction with school (1.03)’ and ‘social cohesion (1.00)’. Second, in terms of an odds ratio, ‘interaction with the faculty (0.414)’ was the highest, followed by ‘satisfaction with school (0.403)’, ‘academic self-efficacy (0.403)’, ‘social cohesion (0.285)’ and ‘career identity (0.241)’, revealing a possibility of school dropout. Therefore, it appears that colleges need to work on the development of career motivation programs to increase the awareness of career identity while students have to keep actively participating in academic improvement programs to increase their academic self-efficacy. In this study were covered the factors affecting school adaptation only. Therefore, further studies based on the study results may minimize students’ dropout through successful school adaptation.
