In this study, the impact of professional Korean soldiers’ early child abuse experiences on their likelihood to perpetrate child abuse and permissible attitudes toward child abuse as a mediator of this relationship were examined. Furthermore, welfare interventions within the military environment in Korea were explored. Data from 301 married professional soldiers who had children under the age of 18 years were analyzed. Results revealed that 39.2% of the soldiers who had been victims of child abuse were likely to be perpetrators of child abuse; this is higher than previous findings (25.1%). The soldiers’ prior experience of being a victim of parental abuse had a direct impact on whether they became perpetrators of child abuse. The results also revealed that the relationship between child abuse experiences and perpetration of child abuse is mediated by permissible attitudes toward child abuse. Thus, social welfare interventions should be implemented to prevent child abuse in professional soldiers’ families.
