The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of social workers’ emotional labor on their depression and anxiety and to verify the moderating effects of the availability of flexible work arrangements. To this end, this study utilized data from a survey conducted on 387 social workers working at facilities for the disabled, the elderly, and local community residents located in five districts of Seoul from January to April, 2019. This study analyzed the moderation model using SPSS PROCESS macro. First, the analysis indicated that emotional labor had a positive effect on depression and anxiety. Secondly, it was verified that the availability of flexible work arrangements controlled a relationship between organizational monitoring and management systems, sub-variables of emotional labor, and depression and anxiety. Based on the results, the coping and intervention methods for reducing difficulties of social workers’ emotional labor were pursued, on an organizational level, by heightening a level of availability of flexible work arrangements. When the organizational surveillance and management system was at a high level, individual practical methods in preparation for a low level of the system were presented.
