The purpose of the study is to understand wearing and interests on Hanbok(Korean traditional costume) by Korean-American. Data were taken from the Korean-American living in Columbus, Ohio. The data collection was executed by both self-administered questionnaire and mail surveys. Final sample used for the study was 159.
The study results showed that more than 2/3 of them had Hanbok, which was almost the same as Korean living in Korea. They tended to wear Hanbok as a party dress not a daily clothing for special days. Tney felt uncomfortable when they dressed Hanbok, however they strongly approved Hanbok as a beautiful costume. They wanted to show Hanbok to their children and other Americans, and wanted to have a Hanbok fashion show as a way for it. Korean-Americans tended to consider Hanbok as a cultural object rather than a regular costume.
